Staff News
You may have noticed some new faces around the nursery in the last week or two. We have been joined by the following members of staff.
Emma Pepper – Emma has joined the team in the OOSC, filling the vacancy that arose as a result of Cath’s departure. Emma is a mum of two, and has several years experience of working in schools. Emma will be working before and after school in term time in the Out of School Club.
Amy Durkin – Amy will be working every morning, from 7.30 to 12.30 and will work in various rooms depending on need. Amy has just recently completed her NVQ 2 in Early Years education and Care, and is fully qualified in Paediatric First Aid.
Fatima Mir – Fatima will be working in nursery every afternoon from 12.30 until 6.00, and will also work across the nursery according to need. Fatima has NVQ level 3 in Child care and is also fully qualified in Paediatric First Aid.
We would like to welcome all of our new team members and hope they will have a long and happy career with us.
Summer Fair
Our annual summer fair is coming up on Sunday 7th June from 2 to 4 p.m.
We have chosen a ‘Frozen’ theme for our fair this year, and hope you will be able to come along and support us. There will be face painting, a barbecue, photo booth, snow cones and lots more. 100% of money raised will go to charity.
Every year we chose a local charity to support, and this year we have chosen Elland Silver Band. Elland Silver Band has a long and proud tradition and provides music for lots of local events as well as competing on a national scale. The organisation has a Senior Band, Youth Band, Training Band and Beginners Band. They provide music tuition and loan out instruments to children as young as 7. The band are fundraising to build a new Community Music Centre in Elland which would provide practice and performance spaces for the band and other local groups.

Staff News

This month we are sad to announce that Bev from Preschool will be leaving us. Her last day will be Friday 13 March. We are very sorry to see her go and wish her every success in the future.

Bev’s place in the Preschool will be taken by Sammy King. Sammy is a fully qualified early years practitioner and has already joined the Preschool team so that she can get to know all the children before Bev leaves. If Bev is your child’s Key Person, then Sammy will be taking over and she will be introducing herself to you over the course of the next 2 weeks.

We also have a new face in the Toddler Room. Leanne Scott has joined us this week as an early years apprentice. Leanne has a background in dance and we look forward to her contribution to the Toddler Room team.

Finally in this month’s staff news, we are congratulating Helen who has been with the nursery 15 years this month! Helen joined us in March 2000 as a nursery nurse in the Baby Room and has since worked her way up to Deputy Manager and SENCO. Along the way she somehow found time to complete her BA (Hons) in Early Childhood and Youth Studies and gain Early Years Professional Status. Helen is one of the great team members that make our nursery such a wonderful place for children and staff alike.

Parents’ Evening

Parents’ evening is coming up on Thursday 30th April, from 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. Our parents’ evenings are informal events, and you are invited to call in at any time to chat with your child’s Key Person, have a look around the nursery, and perhaps visit the next room your child will be moving to.

Our theme for this parents’ evening is Mark Making Matters. You will find displays and information around the nursery about the important role children’s early mark making plays in their later literacy development.

Feedback from Training Day

We had a very good training day last month and are happy to tell you that all of the staff have successfully renewed their paediatric first aid training.

Weather News

10.45 a.m. Just to update you all, snow is falling quite heavily at nursery now. We are maintaining a footpath, but would advise you not to bring your cars into the car park at the moment. As soon as the snow stops, we will try and improve the access. We have no plans to close at the moment!

On the bright side the children are having lots of fun playing outside 🙂

6.45 a.m. There is a slight sprinkling of snow here at nursery this morning. Paths and entrances have been gritted, but please use caution on your way in. Nursery is open as normal.

Tapestry Notifications

Tapestry Notifications

Some parents have mentioned to us that they are no longer receiving email notifications when a new observation is added to their child’s learning journal.

Following a recent update parents can decide for themselves how frequently they want to receive email notifications for the observations and comments published on their child’s Tapestry. The default setting is Daily Email, and the instructions below tell you how to change this if you wish.

Please note that this setting change will have to be made by the parents, on the browser version.

To do it, log in, click on your name and choose ‘Edit Preferences’.

Edit Preferences

This will take you to your preferences screen. At the bottom, in the notifications section, you will see a new option asking you how you would like to receive them.

Notification settings

When you click on the drop down box you will be presented with four options – Internal, Immediate Email, Daily Email, or Weekly Email.

Email Settings
If you choose Internal, you won’t get any email notifications. You will only be notified by a mark next to the notification bell when you log into Tapestry.

You should chose Immediate Email (not shown on the image above) if you want to receive and email every time we add an observation about your child.

Daily Email means you will get one email per day – this won’t necessarily be at the same time every day as they are staggered across Settings, but it will notify you of every new observation/new reply since the last email you received from us. Please note that at the moment these emails are being sent out in the early hours of the morning.

Weekly Email means you will get one email every 7 days, as with the daily email though, this won’t always be at the exact same time each week.

Christmas is coming – and so is our Christmas holiday club!
