The Toddler Room occupies most of the ground floor of the Old School. Here, children aged between two and three years enjoy a large open plan space offering opportunities for imaginative play, sharing books, songs and rhymes, investigating with puzzles and other toys. The adjoining sensory play area offers sand and water play, along with a huge variety of other sensory activities: playing with gloop, treacle, shaving foam, or anything else we can think of!
In the Toddler Room we have one member of staff for every four children. Each child has a Key Person, who will help settling the child in, monitor their development and make sure that they are happy and settled at nursery.
One of the key aspects of development that generally occurs when children are in Toddler Room is toilet training. Our staff have many years experience with this age group and will always work with you when you are ready to start toilet training your child. The Toddler room is equipped with easily accessible child sized sinks and toilets, along with potties and a nappy changing area, so we can meet the needs of your child whatever their stage of development. If you would like more information about toilet training your child try visiting this website.
Many children of this age are still having a nap during the day, and our children are no exception. Nap time is usually after lunch, but we can accommodate other times according to individual preference. The children sleep on sleep mats which we set up in the Physical Play Room which adjoins the Toddler Room. This means that children can sleep undisturbed while still being closely monitored, and children who are not sleeping still have lots of space to play. Each child has their own set of bedding, provided by us and laundered at least once a week.
